Background
Chapter 1 - Early Years
Lived in Thailand
(Bangkok and Udorn Thani), Laos (Vientiane),
and Taiwan, R.O.C. (Tainan).
Later moved to Seattle,
Washington state, the United States.
Chapter 2 - Formative Years
Grew-up in the Kent/Renton area near Seattle. Honors-track
through secondary education. At the age of fourteen (14), began college-credit courses
during the summer while in junior high. Later taught teachers and district
employees how to use personal computers.
Elected President of the Kentridge Computer Club
, President of the Shorthand Club, and Class President
for F.B.L.A.. D.E.C.A. State Delegate and winner. In
a national academic hallmark competition, won First in Washington, Twelfth in the Nation.
Six-year member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club,
Explorer Scouting, KASNO Science Club, 8-year member of the Ski Club, and
Youth Ending Hunger (Humanitarian Award Recipient). Received first prize in a
science project competition involving fluid flow analysis. Appeared in the
local press after receiving two awards from the Rotary Club of
Kent: Citizen Scholar Award and Youth Merit Award for Service,
Dependability and Leadership. Received Academic Excellence Award,
graduating in the top ten percent (top five percent by rank). And also
voted “Most Sophisticated” by classmates… haha!
Entered the University of Washington,
Seattle (UW). While going to school, also worked part-time in
various positions, including at National Business Systems, and The
Boeing Company’s Service Engineering Center, Patent Office, Patent
Engineering Office, and Delivery Center.
While at the UW, founded the Thai Student
Association, and Awarded Residential Life Leadership Corps.
Member of several on-campus clubs including: the International Student
Union, Hansee Action (residential life), Jackson School Student Association
(academic), Residence Hall Student Association, Student Alumni Club (SAC –
now known as Young Alumni Club) and Alpha Kappa Psi (“A. K. Psi”)
Fraternity.
Chapter 3 - Entrepreneurial Spirit
Graduated from the University of Washington,
Seattle (UW) with two (2) bachelors of arts (B.A.) degrees earned
concurrently within four-years. Completed initial B.A. in International
Studies, from the Jackson School of International Studies, with emphasis in
Diplomacy, Foreign Policy, and Security.
Second B.A. in Business Administration, with concentration in
Finance, Information Systems, and International Business. Also became a
member of the World Affairs Council of Seattle (WAC), and the Greater
Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
Returned to Asia as an US-expatriate based in Bangkok, Thailand (resident seven
years). As Marketing Manager of a privately owned company in the petroleum
industry, traveled extensively throughout Thailand,
Asia, Australia, the United States, Europe and Middle
East – some thirty-five states and over thirty countries.
Clients included all major oil and gas
companies, as well as many chemical, petrochemical, transportation,
engineering-procurement-and-construction (EPC) contractors, public-sector
companies, and government agencies in territory. Expanded company sales,
increased products and services, and doubled the company through managing a
dedicated team of engineers and colleagues focused mainly on petroleum-sector
infrastructure projects.
Applications ranged from ship (oil tanker)
loading and off-loading crude/LPG systems, power plant systems, fuel tanker
loading/off-loading, chemical/motor oil blend plants, asphalt/bitumen
systems, tanker systems, pipeline metering and proving, and terminal (fuel
depot) control and automation systems. Knowledgeable in a wide range of
engineered products including: tank fittings, valves and actuators, pumps,
strainers, meters and related instrumentation, flow computers, couplings,
flanges, hose and pipe fittings, injection and sampling systems, pipeline
spheres and pigs, and pre-packaged skid-mounted integrated systems.
Chapter 4 - Economies of Industry
With the intention to expand business and personal
contacts, and pursue a Masters in Business Administration (with emphasis on
finance and marketing), began coursework towards a M.B.A. at the John M. Olin School
of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. Recipient of the Marilyn and
Sam Fox Scholarship (the Harbour Group). Continued interest in the energy and
chemicals industries, and the use of "modern systems, process
techniques, and technologies" in commercial and industrial
applications to enhance productivity, efficiency, and accountability.
After completing my M.B.A., I joined ExxonMobil
and relocated to Houston,
Texas. I later relocated to Northern Virginia / Washington, D.C.
for several assignments at ExxonMobil's downstream headquarters, before returning to Houston
to take my career into upstream commercial development. I enjoy working in
an important, dynamic, and very exciting industry. Energy is not only the
fire that keeps you warm, but it is also a flame that sparks human innovation, imagination,
and ingenuity; it is the foundation of prosperity and much joy.
